Fuel System — F-16

A split-flow fuel system (Fwd/Right and Aft/Left sides) with internal and external tanks, transfer and boost pumps, an array of control valves, a fuel-flow proportioner, and a fuel/oil heat exchanger upstream of the engine.

Overview

The F-16 fuel system comprises forward-fuselage tanks (F-1 and F-2), internal wing tanks, external tanks (centerline and two wing tanks) and two reservoirs (forward and aft). The system is divided into two symmetrical halves: the Fwd/Right system and the Aft/Left system. Each half feeds the engine through a fuel-flow proportioner, then a fuel/oil heat exchanger, and finally the main fuel shutoff valve.

Technical Notes

• Electric boost pumps in F-1 and A-1 ensure adequate pressure to the engine. • Transfer pumps are either motive-flow (fuel-pressure driven) or electrical. • Air refueling via the AR receptacle; ground refueling via a single-point receptacle. • The fuel-flow proportioner balances supply from both halves. • The fuel/oil heat exchanger cools HYD A/B, ADG, and MAIN GEN CSD.
